What is a tax rebate?
A tax rebate is NOT tax relief. Tax relief is deducted from your total income while tax rebates are deducted from your tax payable.
There are four income tax rebates for individuals:
- Individuals earning RM35,000 or less will receive a RM400 rebate
- If you and your husband/wife have a joint income less than RM35,000, you can get a rebate of RM800 (Joint Assessment)
If you and your husband/wife both have chargeable income of less than RM35,000, you can each get a rebate of RM400 (Separate Assessment) - Rebate on the levy paid when you leave Malaysia by flight for the purpose of performing umrah or another religious pilgrimage.
- Zakat/Fitrah (Up to the total amount of tax payable)
