4 Ways You Can Still Enjoy Hari Raya In The New Normal 1 - Multiply - Lifestyle, Planning & Budgeting, Blog

With a nationwide MCO again, you may have to cancel most of your Hari Raya plans. But, there are still ways you can experience the Hari Raya cheer, even if you’re staying at home.

      1. Check if your Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat payment has arrived

In January 2021, the government announced that some eligible Malaysians could apply for Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) cash aid. Recipients will get the payments in two phases.

Those who received the first phase of BPR payments in February can expect the second phase from 7 May to 12 May 2021.

You can check the status of your application from 7 May onwards.

If your application has been approved, here’s what you can get:

Who is eligible? Households with income below RM2,500 Households with income between RM2,501 – RM4,000 Households with income between RM4,001 – RM5,000 Singles with income below RM2,500

Payments for Phase 2 if you didn’t receive payments in Phase 1 (May 2021) With 0 – 1 children:

      RM400

      With 2 or more children:

      RM400

      With 0 – 1 children:

      RM300

      With 2 or more children:

      RM300

With 0 – 1 children (includes those 60 years old and above):

      RM100

      With 2 or more children:

      RM250

      RM350

If your application was rejected, you can appeal to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) from 15 May to 30 June 2021.

      2. Send e-duit raya

Would you like to give duit raya to your relatives but can’t visit everyone? If your bank or e-wallet offers the service, you can send them e-duit raya instead.

Examples of banks offering this service include Maybank, RHB, Hong Leong and CIMB. E-wallets offering e-duit raya services include Boost, Grab, Touch N Go and Shopee Pay.

Haven’t sent e-duit raya before? Here’s how it works:

      • Depending on your bank/e-wallet, you can send e-duit raya via online banking or mobile app to your recipient’s phone number.
      • Share your recipient’s phone number and the amount of money you want to send them.
      • Your recipient will receive a number code via SMS. Your bank/e-wallet will instruct them to click on a link or log onto an app.
      • To collect their duit raya, the recipient must go to the link or app. They must provide the number code to verify their identity.
      • Your bank/e-wallet will send them the money.

What if you don’t have an app or online bank account to send e-duit raya? Some banks are offering free e-duit raya if you download their app, recommend your friends to download it, or open an account for your child.

So, keep a look out for promotions! With the extra e-duit raya, you can save some money and help spread some cheer to your friends and family.

Just watch out for maximum transaction limits for sending e-duit raya per day. Check what the limit is to help you plan your e-duit raya budget.

      3. Pay zakat online

If you’re paying zakat, you can do it online through these ways:

      • Via MyEG’s online portal or mobile app
        • For those who live in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Labuan, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Sarawak and Sabah
        • You can pay via online banking or credit card
      • Your state state zakat board’s website or mobile app
        • You can pay through online banking, JomPAY or selected e-wallets
      • Online banking and mobile app through your bank

      4. Apply for an internet rebate from your telco provider

Are you a B40 BPR recipient? You can get a rebate on your data plan under the government’s Jaringan Prihatin programme announced on 5 May.

If you’re eligible, you can choose one of these two options:

      • A device package, with a rebate of up to RM300
      • A monthly data plan package, with a rebate of up to RM180 per month for 12 months

You can register for the Jaringan Prihatin programme with your telco provider  from 5 May until 31 July 2021.

But, the offer may only be available for certain plans. The rebate you can get also depends on your service provider. So, check with your telco provider on how you can claim the rebate.

Our festive celebrations may not be the same anymore because of COVID-19, but we hope these tips can be of some help for you and your loved ones to still enjoy the month of Syawal. Team Multiply would like to wish you Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri and as always, stay safe!

Ready to celebrate the Raya season?

If you need to budget for the celebrations, check out our planning and budgeting guide.

If you need to get an e-wallet, check our guide on e-wallets.

Wondering what government assistance you can get in 2021?  We’ve summed it up here.

If you qualify for the Pemerkasa aid package, it’s coming soon.  Here’s what you can get from it.
